At Rush Green Primary School, we have designed our Literacy curriculum so that it provides children with the essential skills they will need to prepare them for future life-long learning. We strongly believe that giving our children a thorough grounding in Literacy will enable them to access a huge range of opportunities in later life, such as higher education, career progression and the ability to read critically amongst an ever-evolving society.<\/span><\/p>

In each year group, children are exposed to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. Examples vary from traditional tales, fantasy stories and poetry to newspapers, historical reports and instructional writing. While exploring such a broad range of genres, children are encouraged to talk about their reading and writing: exploring themes and ideas, forming opinions of their own, and playing with language in a positive, nurturing environment. Speaking and listening is a key part of each lesson and at Rush Green Primary School, we believe every child\u2019s contribution should be heard and valued.<\/span><\/p>

We use quality-first teaching to build on prior learning and ensure our curriculum is accessible for all learners. At Rush Green Primary School we use\u00a0 Jolly Phonics\u00a0as our preferred way of delivering high quality teaching of synthetic phonics.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

A great emphasis is placed on the teaching of phonics. During the Foundation stage and Key Stage 1, phonics will be taught using a rigorous and systematic approach following the above mentioned programme.<\/p>

In Key Stage 2, children\u2019s phonic knowledge continues to be developed following the \u2018Support for Spelling\u2019 and National Curriculum SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) programme.<\/p>
